Footlight/Leg Room Lamp

🔧 Tools & Technologies:

CATIA V5, TracePro (Light Analysis), Plastic Part Design, Sheet Metal Design, Component Selection, Automotive Standards

📄 Overview

This project involved the design and development of an OEM-approved footlight system to illuminate the legroom (carpet) area inside vehicles. The focus was on enhancing interior visibility and aesthetics while meeting automotive safety and design standards.

🎯 Objectives

  • Design an efficient lighting system to illuminate the vehicle’s legroom

  • Ensure optimal light distribution and component positioning

  • Meet OEM standards for both Honda and Toyota Kirloskar Motor

🧠 What I Did (Role: Project In Charge)

  • Designed plastic and sheet metal components using CATIA V5

  • Determined optimal mounting location for footlight within the vehicle

  • Performed light analysis using TracePro to evaluate illumination feasibility

  • Selected automotive-grade components within acceptable tolerance levels

  • Maintained regular interface with the electronics team for input on circuit integration

  • Participated in mass production and testing of the finalized product

  • Presented design feasibility and analysis reports to clients for approval
